About Vasectomies

Simplifying your sex life with a vasectomy can take place in a matter of minutes at Beautiful Orlando Spa & Cosmetic Surgery in Kissimmee, FL. Our board-certified urologist, Dr. Sarat Sabharwal, offers the no-scalpel vasectomy for men who no longer want the ability to facilitate a pregnancy. There are no incisions made in the no-scalpel vasectomy as Dr. Sabharwal uses a hemostat (clamp) to puncture through the skin of the scrotal sac. As a minuscule puncture site is made just through the skin, stitches are normally not required and healing time is shorter than a traditional vasectomy. This procedure will not affect your sexual performance. It will also not stop your ability to produce sperm, but it will redirect it to be reabsorbed by the body. Dr. Sabharwal can perform this less invasive, no-scalpel vasectomy in 15 – 20 minutes.

Best Candidates

The best candidates for a vasectomy are men who no longer wish to have children or have additional children. This surgery is a means of birth control for men, and would require additional surgeries to reverse the procedure (if possible).

What to Expect

In preparation for your no-scalpel vasectomy, please follow the following pre-operation instructions prior to your surgery. Please avoid anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen and aspirin, before surgery as these drugs can thin the blood and cause excessive bleeding. We request that you shave and wash your scrotum. This will prevent infection and allow for easier access and visibility during the procedure. It is essential that you bring a pair of tight-fitting underwear or an athletic supporter to wear post-operation to hold the scrotum in place and to decrease swelling. We request that you arrange for a ride home and not drive as you will want to minimize exertion and movement that exacerbates swelling in your surgical area.

As compared to a traditional vasectomy, the no-scalpel vasectomy approach is a less invasive and expeditious procedure. The total time in the surgical suite (including prep and anesthesia) is approximately 15 – 20 minutes. During your no-scalpel vasectomy, no incisions are made. Instead, we use a hemostat (or a surgical clamp) to puncture through the skin of the scrotal sac. Dr. Sabharwal will make the puncture site so small that stitches will probably not be required. This allows for fewer risks for complications and a quick healing time.

Other Considerations

Once discharged from recovery, we ask that you return to your home and rest in bed. Dr. Sabharwal will discuss with you how to manage your pain and what medications are appropriate for you to take. Ice packs on the scrotal area can also alleviate some swelling and pain. If you have any questions after discharge, please call our office with your concerns. You will also have a follow-up appointment in 2 weeks after your no-scalpel vasectomy.

Keep in mind that you can still impregnate your partner until you have a sperm count of zero, which may take a few months to release. It is important to have a semen analysis to check your sperm count before having sexual intercourse without a method of birth control.
