About Thread Lifts

Beautiful Orlando Spa and Cosmetic Surgery offer a thread lift for anyone looking for a minimally invasive alternative to a surgical facelift. Sometimes known as a mini facelift, feather or lunchtime lift, a thread lift uses resorbable sutures to tighten and lift sagging skin in your face and neck for a more youthful appearance. To learn more about the benefits of a thread lift, schedule a consultation at Beautiful Orlando Spa and Cosmetic Surgery in Kissimmee, FL.

InstaLift is a minimally invasive, resorbable suspension suture (thread) that lifts and repositions facial tissue to help the face take on a more lifted appearance. The bi-directional cone threads are made of glycolide/L-lactide (PLGA), which help to stimulate collagen production over time. Silhouette InstaLift is a simple procedure  to re-contour your face, lifting the deeper layers of your skin for a more youthful appearance.  InstaLift can help patients achieve their aesthetic goals by offering a quick mini facelift that does not require a long recovery period or time spent in a hospital operating room.

Q. Is Silhouette InstaLift FDA cleared?

The product earned FDA-clearance in April 2015.

Q. Who is a good candidate to have a Silhouette InstaLift procedure?

Silhouette InstaLift is the ideal minimally-invasive solution for many men and women who are interested in refreshing their appearance without major surgery, injections, or lasers. It offers a new and unique technology to lift sagging facial skin. Suitable candidates have good skin quality, with moderate sagging of the skin in the mid-face. Skin should not be too thick/heavy or too thin.
Q. What are Silhouette InstaLift sutures made of?

Silhouette InstaLift? sutures are made from glycolide / L-lactide (PLGA), a polymer that is frequently used in medical devices and is well tolerated by the body. The fully resorbable sutures have bi- directional cones; the sutures lift and add volume while the bi-directional cones hold the suture and cheek sub-dermis in an elevated position.

Q. What can Silhouette InstaLift do to improve my appearance?

Sagging facial skin is one of the major contributors to an aged and tired appearance. Silhouette InstaLift? is a minimally-invasive procedure that redefines the contours of your mid-face by lifting the deeper layers of your skin for a more youthful look.

Q. What areas of the face does Silhouette InstaLift treat?

The procedure lifts and restores contours to the mid-face and cheek area.

Q. How is the Silhouette InstaLift procedure performed?

During the in-office procedure, a specially-trained physician will begin by marking the areas of desired lift on the patient. He / she will then gently insert a needle to a depth of 5mm and guide it through the subcutaneous tissue of the mid-face and extract at each bi-directional exit point. The sutures have bi-directional absorbable cones that hold them in place. The treatment is generally well tolerated by patients and takes approximately 45 minutes.

Q. How is Silhouette InstaLift different from Thread Lifts?

Silhouette InstaLift is an entirely new technology and procedure. Rather than just repositioning the skin, Silhouette InstaLift now focuses on the underlying layers of the skin, because that is what really causes sagging. Another important advance is that the sutures are not permanent; they are absorbed by the body over time. As they are absorbed, they stimulate collagen renewal, which helps achieve a younger, natural look.

Q. Who is a non-ideal patient?

The Silhouette InstaLift device should not be used in patients with any known allergy or foreign body sensitivities to plastic biomaterial or in situations where internal fixation is otherwise contraindicated, (e.g. infection). The device should also not be used in patients appearing to have very thin soft tissue of the face in which the implant may be palpable or in patients with excessive heavy skin.
Q. What are the side effects that might happen with this procedure?

After placement, patients may experience a minimal acute inflammatory tissue reaction. Symptoms may include minor pain, swelling and bruising. Material sensitivity / allergic reactions should be reported to Silhouette Lift Inc. Implantation of foreign materials in tissue can result in histological reactions. Other potential side effects include sensory nerve injury, asymmetry or banding.

PDO Threads

A PDO thread lift rejuvenates and tightens sagging skin tissue using threads made of polydioxanone, hence the term PDO lift. The threads are introduced into the deeper layers of the skin, producing instant lifting, cellular renewal, collagen stimulation, and skin tightening. These benefits are long-lasting and can help you attain a youthful, rested look in a minimally invasive manner.

Mesh or Lift: Two types of Procedures with PDO

  • The first one (using smooth threads) consists of creating a mesh under the skin. This mesh will serve as the foundation for our new collagen production. This technique tightens the skin naturally from within. Results appear naturally without any drastic change.
  • The other technique (using barbed threads) is utilized to produce a more dramatic and immediate result. The PDO sutures have "barbs", which provide a grip underneath the skin. Sutures can be pulled in 1 or 2 directions, creating an instant skin repositioning. The skin will then build collagen and secure the lift!

Which Lift is Right for Me?

As we offer more than one type of thread lift, you may be asking yourself, "Which type is right for me?" Only a member of our experienced team can give you a precise answer to that question. But we can offer you a bit more information to help you feel informed about the types of threads we offer at Beautiful Orlando Spa and Cosmetic Surgery:

PDO – The PDO thread lift is an effective, nonsurgical facelift treatment that is suitable for anyone looking to improve the appearance of sagging skin and attain an immediate lift of the facial contours without undergoing surgery. It is best suited for men and women who are unwilling to tolerate the long downtime of a facelift surgery but want to look refresh and lifted quickly and naturally. When compared with other nonsurgical skin tightening options, such as Ultherapy, a PDO thread lift offers much faster results.

InstaLift – Though somewhat similar to a PDO thread lift in terms of application, an InstaLift thread lift may offer continued benefits over a period of 18 months in addition to immediate lifting results. As the threads are made of a slowly absorbable material, they hold the tissue in a higher position until collagen production is further stimulated by the absorption of the thread, resulting in a gradual increase in facial volume and shapeliness over the course of the healing process.

PDO and InstaLift procedures both offer benefits. The procedure that will best help you achieve your aesthetic goals can be decided during a consultation at our facility.

Ideal Candidates

A thread lift can help if you have mild to moderate signs of aging in your face and neck, including lines, wrinkles, and loose skin. You may have sagging areas in your forehead (brow), mid-face (cheeks), lower face (smile lines), jawline, or neck that would benefit from repositioning. A thread lift is great if you want to rejuvenate your appearance without surgery and want natural-looking results. A thread lift can be performed along with injectable wrinkle treatments, like BOTOX, Juvéderm, and Restylane for more significant improvements. Thread lifts are not recommended for patients with known allergies to plastic biomaterials or foreign body sensitivities.

Procedure Technique

A thread lift is performed as a minor procedure in our office. You will be awake during the procedure, but your face may be numbed with a local anesthesia. During a thread lift procedure, we will mark the entrance and exit points on your face before using a fine needle to insert the predetermined thread type (PDO or InstaLift) through your skin. Your skin is then tightened by carefully pulling the thread in the desired direction. A thread lift typically takes about one hour, depending on the area of the face being lifted.

What to Expect

After your thread lift, you will be able to leave to recover at home. You may have some redness, bruising, and swelling in and around the thread insertion and exit points for several days. Thread lifts can yield visible results directly after the procedure. You should see smoother skin with a lifted and contoured appearance. With proper care, results can last anywhere from several months to up to many years. Since both the PDO and InstaLift threads help to boost natural collagen production, your skin will be naturally firmer. Additional threads may need to be used after the initial procedure to maintain results. In rare cases, patients may experience foreign material reactions, which should be reported to our facility right away.
