Low Testosterone Treatment in Kissimmee, FL

Low Testosterone (Low t)

A male’s testosterone peaks at age 19 and typically decreases between 1 – 2% per year thereafter. At the same time that the decrease in testosterone starts becoming noticeable for men, their estrogen levels start increasing. There are three types of estrogen (estrone, estriol, and estradiol), where estradiol is the most important in contributing to the effects of low testosterone and requiring testosterone treatment.

Diagnosing each individual requires understanding your unique needs and working with a compounding pharmacy to develop a program and prescribe specific hormone replacement therapy drugs. Your program will never be a one-size-fits-all approach, and our hormone replacement therapy doctors will continuously check your hormone levels to improve your health. At Beautiful Orlando, our experienced practitioners will work with you to manage your low T and establish a treatment plan that will help combat your specific symptoms or problems.

Methods of Delivery

Low Testosterone therapy and male hormone replacement therapy includes several different prescription options for the delivery of your customized treatment. These options could include pills, self-injections, creams, gels, patches, and pellets. You and your physician will make a decision regarding your hormone replacement therapy and testosterone treatment plan based on your symptoms, imbalances, and personal preferences. Testosterone, in particular, is often administered through self injections, creams, and gels.

Pros and Cons

There are so many benefits to testosterone therapy and hormone balancing. The growing belief by physicians is that living with a depleted endocrine system causes so many other issues to your body. Low T therapy can help improve a man's sex drive, energy level, mood, bone density, muscle mass, and more. It is important to have a thorough assessment so the right dosage amount can be prescribed. Countless men have had positive outcomes with this therapy and continue to use it to balance their levels.

However, if a man does not adhere to the appropriate dosage levels or if he has an underlying medical condition, there could be potential side effects of taking testosterone.

  • Testicular shrinkage is an issue some see while taking testosterone. However, this typically happens when weightlifters or performance athletes take unusually large amounts of hormones, which we do not recommend. The hypothalamus tells your testicles that you are producing enough testosterone and tells it to produce less, which causes the testicles to get smaller. This is why dosage levels are important and something our doctors will pay close attention to.
  • Testosterone therapy can reduce sperm production and lower fertility. This issue is typically rectified by stopping treatment, but not always. If you are considering having children, we will decrease or stop your testosterone treatment, which should increase your chances.
  • Injecting testosterone can cause edema where the body retains water. Switching to topical testosterone gels or creams will typically fix this. Excessive water retention can increase heart failure risks. During your routine visits, it's important to discuss any fatigue, diminished exercise ability, swelling of the extremities, or difficulty breathing.
  • Although rare, some side effects of testosterone treatment can have more alarming effects, such as mental/mood changes (anxiety, depression or increased anger), liver disease signs (abdominal pain/nausea, unusual tiredness, yellowing eyes/skin, dark urine), increased sleep issues, or increased snoring. A slight increase in aggressiveness and libido is normal. These side effects are more likely to be caused by testosterone abuse, which is, again, why we are very diligent with our dosage amounts.
  • Patients considering HRT with diabetes should know that testosterone therapy may decrease blood sugar levels. This should be considered a benefit; however, measuring and maintaining blood sugar levels to ensure they do not dip too low is important. We will need to monitor and may reduce your diabetes medication.

This is not a complete list of possible side effects. If you notice other side effects not listed above, contact us immediately. Most men have a positive experience with testosterone therapy.
